What is
Ta Netjer?
For the ancient Egyptians, Ta-Netjer meant "God's Land" - a name also given to the Land of Punt, believed to stretch from present-day Eritrea to Somalia. A journey to this region was akin to a pilgrimage: as extraordinary, in their time, as a trip to the moon might seem today.
They believed this land to be not only the cradle of humanity but also a place of renewal - an opportunity to revitalize through the abundance of nature's riches. Each expedition returned with boats laden with raw materials and local goods essential to life in Pharaoh's Egypt. These voyages were not merely economic missions; they were adventures, filled with stories, discoveries, and achievements worth passing down through generations.
When Queen Hatshepsut sent her expeditions to Punt, the aim was not conquest. Their exchanges were grounded in mutual benefit and respect - the spirit of fair trade written into the ancient world.
